5/31/2023: Current dune crossing closures include Read Ave. Work continues to move north towards Saulsbury/Swedes St.

5/30/2023: All dune crossings are open. Unfavorable ocean conditions are preventing any beach fill or dredging. Crews will resume work as soon as possible.

5/26/2023: All dune crossings are open. Work has stopped temporarily for Memorial Day weekend. The project will resume Monday evening, 5/29 starting at Read Avenue and working north to the vicinity of Saulsbury Street and Swedes Street. Town staff will continue to update the public as needed. Enjoy the holiday weekend!

5/25/2023: Current dune crossing closures include Van Dyke and Collins. Beach replenishment on the south end of town will be completed today. Weather permitting, the pipe will be flipped back to Read Ave to begin work on the north end, moving towards Saulsbury St. All work will cease this evening in anticipation of Memorial Day Weekend. The project will resume the evening of Monday, May 29th.

5/24/2023: Current dune crossing closures include Van Dyke and Collins. Weeks Marine anticipates that work on the south end of town will be completed by this evening. After Collins Ave is finished, the pipe will be flipped back towards the north side of town. Reminder - the beach will remain open for Memorial Day Weekend! Any equipment that can not be removed from the beach will be in a roped-off area to protect the public. Work will resume the evening of Monday, 5/29, weather permitting.

5/23/2023: Current dune crossing closures include Dickinson, Van Dyke, and Collins. Heavy seas and strong winds are slowing down progress, and may prevent the completion of the south end of the beach by Thursday. Reminder that no work will be completed over Memorial Day Weekend. The project will stop Thursday evening, and resume Monday evening.

5/22/2023: Current dune crossing closures include Rodney, Dickinson, and Van Dyke. Work continues to move south. The goal date for completing the south end of town is Thursday, May 25th. This timeline is dependent on weather and mechanical operations continuing in our favor.

5/19/2023: The original plan to begin at Read Avenue and move north to Saulsbury Street has changed. Weeks Marine will now begin at Read Avenue and first work south towards Collins Avenue, then return to Read to begin working north.

5/18/2023: Weeks Marine plans to finish the beach replenishment in Rehoboth this evening. Equipment will be moved to Dewey tonight, and replenishment will start tomorrow, Friday, May 19th. Work will begin on Read Avenue moving north towards Saulsbury Street, continuing round-the-clock for approximately 5-6 days. Once the north end is completed, they will return to Read Avenue and work south to Collins Avenue. Additionally, after insisting on a snow fence at the toe of the dune, this request has been approved by DNREC and will be installed sometime during this project.

Estimated replenishment work is approximately 13 days not including Memorial Day Weekend. The goal completion date is June 6th, but work is weather-dependent. Weeks Marine has brought in 4 dredges in an attempt to get the project back on schedule.

Over Memorial Day Weekend, work will stop on Friday, May 26th, to resume on Monday, May 29th at 6:00pm. During this time, all equipment will be in a fenced off area on the beach between dune crossings.

Our Town Manager will continue to meet with Weeks Marine on a daily basis while beach replenishment is taking place in Dewey Beach. We will update the public as necessary.
