One of the most common questions we've received is "why isn't there a bloom box on my street?" Our goal is to have bloom boxes all throughout Dewey Beach! We're currently welcoming new sponsors for the 2025 season. We can't wait to welcome you to the Dewey in Bloom team!

SPONSOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Sponsoring a planter box provides the planter, soil/peat, plants for both spring and fall, and a 5x7" staked sign with logo or message of your choosing (sign is pre-designed, and your logo or message will be added to the template). This is a great option for businesses or groups. The total cost to sponsor a box for the 2025 season is $750. You must also have a volunteer team of at least 2 individuals to care for your planter box. This may include filling the box with provided soil, spring planting, fall planting, pruning and maintenance, and watering. The Dewey in Bloom gardening team will help teach you how to care for your plants. Be aware that in the middle of summer, the planters need a fair amount of water at least once a week. 

Some of our most successful teams are groups of neighbors who share in the sponsorship to add a planter to their street, and share in the maintenance of the plants. This is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors, and work together!

BOX LOCATION & PLACEMENT

Bloom boxes grow best in an area that receives plenty of sunshine, and must be placed on a solid, level surface to provide adequate drainage. We must also consider space when placing boxes on sidewalks, and need to provide plenty of room for pedestrians. We ask that you consider a couple of desired locations for your box. Town staff and the Dewey in Bloom team will assess your desired locations to ensure both safety for the public, and the best success for your plants! Keep in mind, caring for your plants is easiest when they are near a water source. The further away the box is from an available water source, the further you'll need to tote water to keep the plants thriving.

Town of Dewey Beach maintenance staff will place the bloom box. Please note, no new boxes will be placed until spring of 2025. 

RENEWAL OF SPONSORSHIP

Existing sponsors are given first right of refusal for sponsorship of following years at a reduced rate. The Dewey in Bloom Steering Committee will contact you in Fall/Winter of 2025 to ask if you'd like to renew your sponsorship for 2026.
